How to quickly find a lost dog

Dogs are very energetic animals and their sense of smell is one of the best among mammals. Sometimes, however, it can happen that a favorite finds a scent that cannot be refused and runs away. Doglo’s heart is to ensure good security and a safe environment for every pet!

For this purpose, we present to you 9 tricks using Delfi to quickly find your lost dog:

  1. Comb the neighborhood through. Go door to door and find out from all kinds of people living in the area who has seen your favorite. Also keep your eyes open for open garage doors, open basement windows and sheds. When you go searching, take a flashlight with you just in case, so that you can see what is happening in every dark corner.
  2. Put up flyers. You may think that your pet will never go away, but never say never. Therefore, you could have a good and detailed photo of your favorite, which you can use for an advertisement if necessary. The flyer should definitely include a description of the pet, the place where it went missing and the contact numbers of the owners.
  3. Visit different shelters. Perhaps someone unluckily found the call that had wandered off and took it to an animal shelter. That’s why it’s worth calling local shelters and finding out if they’ve recently brought in an animal that matches your pet’s description. If possible, it is definitely worth going there yourself and exploring. Many shelters immediately post the picture and information of the found dog on social media and put the information on their website.
  4. Don’t assume that your pet is close to home. Suddenly the pet wandered onto the road, some good person picked him up in the car and took him to the animal shelter, which is located 30 kilometers away. In other words, if you live in the countryside or near a highway, it is worth checking with nearby settlements to see if anyone knows anything.
  5. Make social media work for you. If a favorite has gone missing, post a picture of your favorite on social media for others to share. Also post in various Facebook groups related to dogs or cats. There are also often different so-called settlement groups and municipal groups, which have been joined by people living in the same area as you. Posting in such a group can help get a lost pet back home faster.
  6. Chip and collar. It helps a lot if your pet is microchipped and registered! In addition, he could have a collar with your phone number and name on it, so it will be easier for the finder. However, if the pet should end up in a shelter or animal clinic, its owner will be quickly identified based on the chip. The chip alone is not enough, make sure that your animal is also entered in the pet register. The GPS tracking device around the dog’s neck will definitely help you find the animal the fastest!
  7. Volunteer searchers. Spread the word about a lost pet. There are many volunteers among us who are willing to join the search and help you.
Talk to dog people. For example, go to the local dog park and find out if anyone has seen such a dog. Many dog people communicate with each other and so the word spreads much faster. Be sure to share the flyer with them and find out if anyone wants to join in the search for a lost pet.
  8. Do not give up! The fact that the dog has been missing for a week does not mean that you should give up! There have been many cases where the favorite is found only a few weeks, months or even two later. Maybe your pet wanders somewhere far away, or someone took him in for a couple of days and is now trying to find you

It is always useful to prevent the pet from disappearing and not to assume that the four-legged friend will not wander away. A convenient way to always keep your dog in the picture is the Doglo GPS tracking device. The Doglo tracker helps to monitor the dog at home with a virtual enclosure that notifies the owner’s smartphone when the pet has left the designated area. Share the dog’s location with four other family members, who can all track their pet from the comfort of their smartphone!
